Agartala, 2nd November 2026 : In a significant step towards ensuring affordable healthcare for border residents, the BSF Tripura Frontier on Monday inaugurated a Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) at Fatikchera in West Tripura.
The Kendra was inaugurated by Princee Rani, IPS, Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier, in the presence of senior BSF officers, medical officers from BSF and civil hospitals, and representatives of the local border population.
The facility has been established through a tripartite agreement involving the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), SWADHIN Trust and BSF. It is expected to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices to serving and retired BSF personnel, their families and residents of neighbouring border villages.
Operating under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) of the Union Department of Pharmaceuticals, the initiative aims to reduce healthcare expenses by making essential medicines accessible to the common people. Medicines available through these Kendras are generally priced 50 to 90 per cent lower than their branded equivalents.
All medicines supplied through the scheme undergo prescribed quality checks at NABL-accredited laboratories and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Besides medicines for chronic diseases, the outlets also offer surgical products, nutraceuticals and Suvidha Sanitary Napkins at just Rs 1 per pad.
Strategically located at the entrance of the BSF campus, the Fatikchera Kendra is expected to facilitate easy access to affordable medicines for people living in adjoining border areas.
The inauguration is part of the BSF Tripura Frontier’s broader Border Outreach Programme, which focuses on improving the living conditions of communities in remote and inaccessible areas. Under this initiative, the force has been organising football and volleyball tournaments, marathons, blood donation and medical camps, besides distributing sports equipment and educational materials.
The programme also includes skill development initiatives and preparations for Tripura’s youth aspiring to join the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
Through such welfare-oriented activities, the BSF Tripura Frontier is seeking to strengthen its engagement with border communities, reaffirming its commitment to national security alongside healthcare, youth empowerment and inclusive development.
