Large consignment of firecrackers seized at Boxanagar, smuggling suspected

Date:

Agartala, 7th November 2026 : A large quantity of firecrackers was seized from a godown at Rahimpur market in Boxanagar after its shutter was forcibly opened during an operation reportedly conducted by security personnel on Saturday.

The seizure has raised suspicions that the firecrackers had been stockpiled for illegal transportation across the international border into Bangladesh. However, the suspected smuggling angle has not yet been officially confirmed, and neither the police nor the Border Security Force (BSF) has issued any statement regarding the incident.

According to sources, the operation was launched following confidential intelligence inputs about the illegal stockpiling of firecrackers in the market. Security personnel reportedly broke open the godown’s shutter and recovered a substantial quantity of firecrackers stored inside.

The seizure comes against the backdrop of heightened security along the border in Boxanagar. Recently, BSF personnel were allegedly attacked by smugglers in the Ashabari area, prompting security forces to intensify surveillance and enforcement against cross-border smuggling and other illegal activities.

The latest seizure is being viewed as part of the intensified crackdown in the region. Further details, including the ownership of the seized consignment and the intended destination of the firecrackers, are yet to emerge.
