Agartala: April 02.  Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder today gave a stern warning to a section of people who allegedly tried to collect subscriptions from a small vendor who will come in the city for Chaitra Mela.

Mayor Majumder said this while inspecting the Shakuntala Road and Jackson Gate area where the Chaitra Mela will start from April 04.

“The traditional Chaitra Mela will start from April 4 at Shakuntala Road and Jackson Gate area under the management of AMC. The fair will continue till April 14 which is around 11 days. Mela is being arranged this year like every year with the aim that the businessmen of the poor sections can come to Agartala city in the month of Chaitra and earn as expected income. However, the corporation authority will not collect any kind of space rent or tax from the small traders who will do business in the fair”, said Mayor.

He said such a decision has been taken keeping in mind the businessmen of the poorer sections.

In reply to a question the mayor said that all the verbal complaints received that some people are trying to extort money from small traders are being investigated.

“Businessmen against whom complaints have been made were summoned and instructed not to step out of their own shop premises. Then strict action will be taken against that trader. I have warned that strict action will be taken against them if they get the documentary information”, he said.

He also said that strict action will be taken if anyone tries to occupy the road and do business during and after the Chaitra Mela.

He said that those who do business in the name of fast food on the busy streets of Agartala city should place a moveable shop.

“Especially till two or three in the night, some vendors of food stalls make the city of Agartala a corridor of intoxication. Therefore, to close this corridor of addiction, traders can enter Agartala city with their moveable shop after 11 am and after 11 pm, no vendor can be present on the streets in the city. This step will be taken to make Tripura drug free. Action will be taken against those who will sell food to people by on tables and chairs with vendor license”, he said.
