JJM: Govt provides water connection to 1238 localities in rural areas

Agartala: July 28. The Drinking Water and Sanitation minister Sushanta Chowdhury today claimed that the government has provided drinking water through pipes in 1,238 localities out of 8,710 paras in rural areas across the state. Addressing a press conference this evening at Civil Secretariat, Chowdhury said that the DWS is working on a war-time basis to bring purified drinking water through pipes to every family living in rural areas of the state by next December through the Jal Jeevan Mission.

Today he gave detailed information about the success and progress of work so far in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in the state in the press conference.He said that the Jal Jeevan Mission project was launched in 2019. Out of a total of 7,41,945 families in the rural areas of the state, drinking water has been provided through pipes to 3,66,233 families under the project so far.

The minister claimed that 24,502 households in the rural areas of the state had been reached with piped drinking water connections before the Jal Jeevan Mission project was launched in the state. “In percentage terms this rate is 3.30 percent. A total of 3,90,735 households have been supplied with purified drinking water through pipes so far, before and after the Jal Jeevan Mission project was launched in the state with 52.66 percent”, he said.He further claimed that among 8,710 paras in rural areas across the state. So far, 100 percent of the houses have been provided with drinking water through pipes in 1,238 neighborhoods. He said that out of a total of 1,176 gram panchayats and village committees across the state, 29 gram panchayats and village committees have reached 100 percent potable water through pipes.
