Agartala: May 02. Residents living in Narayan Nagar Colony area under Rajnagar Panchayat of Udaipur has blockaded road protesting the severe crisis of drinking water.
Sources said that the residents living in the area were facing severe drinking water crisis since last three months. Hundreds of families in the village are collecting water from the hills of the neighboring villages. They joined the road blockade on Tuesday. It is known that around 100 to 150 families of Narayan Nagar Colony area under Rajnagar Panchayat in Udaipur are suffering from water shortage since last three months.
They have repeatedly approached to the local Rajnagar Gram Panchayat but there was no permanent solution.
Finally, from Tuesday morning, the locals of the area sat on a road blocked on the road in Baratila area.
They demanded regular supply of drinking water. As a result of this road blockade, traffic jams were created on the Udaipur-Pitra road. Students returning from school, employees going to office were stuck on the road. Even though the road blockade continued for a long time, no official was seen to talk with the protestors. Finally Ajit Poddar, the youth leader of the local ruling party, spoke to the road blockaders.
The besiegers lifted the blockade after promising regular water supplies. Ajit Poddar, the youth leader of the ruling party, said that the water demand of the local people is correct.
This water crisis is happening due to the negligence of some employees of the department. This water crisis occurs due to failure of water pumps. He said that water will be supplied in the afternoon. Now it remains to be seen when the problem will be solved.
