Agartala: May 06. Tripura Mahila Sangram Parishad, a social body of women in the state has threatened to launch a massive movement if the government failed to arrest all the corrupt political leaders and mafias backed by them who are involved in drug trade in the state.

The leaders of Tripura Mahila Sangram Parishad today met West District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan and submitted a memorandum.

In the memorandum, the social body has said that after the BJP-IPFT alliance came to power in the state in 2018, the government promised the people of the state to make Tripura drug-free. Even after returning to power for the second term, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha himself went a step further and announced that the government has adopted a zero tolerance policy to make Tripura drug free.

“But the reality is that the entire Tripura is under the grip of devastating drugs. From the urban to suburbs to the rural hills of the state, trade of drug is going on full swing. From young people to ordinary working people are getting addicted of it day after day”, the memorandum reads.

They have also alleged that even the drugs have also reached in schools and colleges too.

“As the number of drug addicts is increasing in the state, the whole state will face disaster in the near future. The number of HIV AIDS patents is also increasing. We have seen with the help of some dishonest political leaders and mafias are selling drugs in each and every area. Police is not taking any action against them”, they alleged.

Claiming that number of unemployment is increasing, they also slammed the government for not fulfilling their promises of providing employment.

“Let the government take strict action to stop the trade of drugs on an urgent basis. All the corrupt political leaders and mafia backed by the leaders involved in the illegal trade of drugs should also be arrested. If not, then the Tripura Mahila Sangram Parishad will launch a larger movement in the coming days. Then the state administration will be responsible for any situation”, the letter reads.
