Agartala, June 08, 2023: Amidst the controversy surrounding the termination of 10,323 teachers, including GT, UGT, and PGT teachers, a group of PGT teachers has come forward to claim that they were not included in the Tanmoy Nath case. In a petition filed in the Tripura High Court back in March 2021, these teachers sought justice and expressed their disagreement with the termination.
Over the course of numerous hearings, spanning from March 2021 to May 2023, Justice Subhashis Talapatra and later Arindam Lodh presided over the case. The final judgment now rests with Justice T Amarnath Gaur. However, during the proceedings, stark differences emerged in the statements provided by teachers who were employed in different years, namely 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009, and 2010. These discrepancies suggest a policy error and have prompted the current judge to question the government’s basis for their termination.
“The termination is completely illegal,” asserted PGT teacher Kunal Lal Das during a press conference held at the Agartala Press Club on Thursday. Das, along with other PGT teachers, refuted any claims that they had acted against the interests of the Tanmoy Nath case. They urged all PGT teachers to submit their statements to the relevant department promptly. Furthermore, the delegation of PGT teachers highlighted the urgency for the government to expedite the process of aligning them with specific schools.
The PGT teachers are seeking the government’s intervention in this matter, calling for an investigation into the termination and a resolution that rectifies their employment status. The press conference served as a platform for the teachers to voice their grievances and assert their rights as professionals in the education sector. The government’s response to these demands remains to be seen as the case continues to unfold.
