Finance Minister inaugurated training camp on GST collection

Agartala, June 14, 2023: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Wednesday said that the state budget has increased to about Rs 27 thousand crore in the last financial year. In that fiscal year, the state’s own source income was Rs 2,765 crore which is almost double compared to 2017-2018 financial year and majority of this comes from GST. Therefore, the state government has emphasized on real tax collection from the tax payers.

While inaugurating a one-day training camp on GST collection organized by the tax authorities at Agartala Town Hall on Wednesday, Singha Roy said that by adopting the correct approach to collecting GST, government officials can play a role in increasing the state’s own income.

He said that as the income of the state increases, the government will be able to take more people-oriented decisions for the welfare of the state and the people.

He also said that the state’s own income is limited. Most of the developmental work requires the help of the Centre. But as much as it is possible to earn from the state, it should be earned in a proper manner with the joint efforts of all.

Speaking at the camp, Commissioner of Taxes Rakhi Biswas said that from today to June 16, training will be given to DDOs of all departments under 3 treasuries of West Tripura district regarding GST collection. Later such training camps will be organized in every district of the state.

It is to be noted that 181 DDOs of Agartala Treasury-1 of various departments also participated in this camp on Wednesday. Additional Secretary of Finance Department Akinchan Sarkar, Treasury Officer of Agartala Treasury-1 Harshita Biswas and others also spoke.
