Agartala, June 17: A devastating fire broke out in Baburbazar, Kailashahar at approximately 4:30 am on Saturday, resulting in the destruction of 25 shops.

The estimated damage caused by the fire is around 2 crore rupees. The incident originated from Haji Akbar Ali’s shop in Baburbazar during the late hours of the night.

Upon receiving the information, local firefighters were immediately notified, but unfortunately, by the time they arrived, approximately 25 shops had already been reduced to ashes. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation.

Authorities, including the Irani police and TSR jawans, swiftly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations. However, local residents expressed their belief that if the firefighters had arrived in a timely manner, the extent of the damage could have been significantly reduced.

Haji Akbar Bazar in Baburbazar is a marketplace known for housing electronics shops, government fair price shops, and large warehouses. The fire resulted in the loss of all goods for the traders operating within the market shed.

According to the night watchman of the market, he witnessed a flash of lightning in the morning, which coincided with the sighting of fire in one of the shops. Within moments, the fire rapidly spread to nearby shops. However, the fire department managed to arrive promptly and bring the flames under control.

This incident has caused extensive damage to the market, surpassing the impact of the six previous fires experienced in the area. The affected business owners are requesting financial support from the government to help them recover and resume their operations. Without such assistance, they fear they may not be able to rebuild their businesses. The fire incident has generated significant concern and agitation within the community.
