Agartala: July 27. Tribal Student Union (TSU) today alleged that the BJP government has destroyed the educational progress made in Tripura over the last 25 years under the Left regime.

In a press conference held today, the General Secretary of TSU, Sujit Tripura, said the education sector has witnessed a sharp decline in budget allocation and infrastructure development during the past six years.

“During the Left government’s reign in Tripura, 21.23 percent of the budget was dedicated to education in the financial year 2017-18. However, this allocation has dwindled to 18.48 percent in the financial year 2022-23, and a mere 17.86 percent has been allocated for education in the financial year 2023-24”, he claimed.

TSU’s General Secretary highlighted the plight of the education system in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), stating that it has been reduced to a complete shambles. With a total of 1036 schools under TTAADC, an alarming 50 percent of these institutions are grappling with a severe shortage of teachers. Shockingly, 107 schools are being managed by just a single teacher.

Sujit Tripura also raised questions about the utilization of funds allocated under the Vidyajyoti project, which reportedly received crores of rupees. Despite these substantial funds, school infrastructure remains underdeveloped, and the shortage of teachers persists, exacerbating the crisis in the education sector.
