Handloom Sales Soar to Rs 9 Crores in State: Balai Goswami

 Agartala: August 07. Balai Goswami, chairman of Handloom and Handicraf Development Corporation Limited said that with 1 lakh 37 thousand 445 artisans in the state, handloom cloths and other goods worth approximately Rs 9 crores are currently sold within the state

In a grand celebration of the 9th National Handloom Day, Hall No. 1 of Prajna Bhavan in Agartala witnessed a momentous event today. The program, jointly organized by the Ministry of Textiles and the Department of Handloom, Handicrafts, and Silk Industries of the Central Government, was graced by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who inaugurated the event in New Delhi via live telecast.

longside the Prime Minister, esteemed dignitaries such as Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Narayan Rane, and Union Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Vikram Jardosh, among others, participated in the event, symbolizing the government’s strong support for the handloom, handicraft, and silk industries.

The National Handwriting Day, observed on 7th August every year since 2015, serves as a tribute to the invaluable art of handwriting and its cultural significance.

Balai Goswami, chairman of Handloom and Handloom Development Corporation Limited, delivered an i speech, emphasizing how these traditional crafts provide employment opportunities to artists and bolster the state’s economic foundation. With 1 lakh 37 thousand 445 artisans in the state, handloom cloths and other goods worth approximately Rs 9 crores are currently sold within the region.

Highlighting the importance of the occasion, Director of Handicrafts, Handloom, and Silk Industries Department S. Prabhu expressed his hope that the National Handicrafts Day would further encourage and empower the skilled artists of the state.
