Police inspector injured by gambler in Birganj, two arrested

Agartala, August 28, 2023: A police inspector was injured by a gambler in Birganj on Sunday night, when he went to arrest him along with other staff of the Birganj police station. The inspector, identified as Alok Barman, was attacked by the gambler with a sharp weapon, which broke his nose. He was rushed to the GB Hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at Mallik Nazrul Colony area, where the police had received a tip-off about illegal gambling activities. The police raided the spot and tried to nab the gamblers, but one of them resisted and assaulted the inspector. The gambler then fled from the scene, but the police chased him and arrested him later. Another accomplice of the gambler was also arrested by the police.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of the Birganj police station and the subdivisional police officer (SDPO) of Amarpur visited the injured inspector at the hospital and enquired about his condition. They also praised his bravery and assured him of all possible support. The two accused were produced before the court on Monday afternoon and remanded to judicial custody. The police said that they would take stern action against the culprits and prevent such incidents from happening again.
