Agartala, August 29, 2023: A Group D female employee of the Kanchanmala animal hospital was caught writing prescriptions for sick goats on Tuesday. She was not a veterinarian, but acted as one in the absence of the doctor. The media exposed this shocking incident at the hospital in Golaghati constituency.

The hospital comes under the Animal Resources Development Department, headed by minister Sudhangshu Das. He has been inspecting various offices, but seems unaware of his own department’s poor condition.

The hospital’s doctor, Sujoy Sarkar, is also in charge of another hospital at Ranirkhamar. He cannot run both hospitals at the same time, but that is how the department works. Many animal hospitals in Tripura lack enough veterinarians due to the government’s negligence.

On Tuesday, Dr. Sarkar was at Ranirkhamar and could not treat the patients at Kanchanmala. Some women brought a sick goat to the hospital and asked for help. The Group D employee wrote a prescription for the goat without any medical authority or knowledge.

This problem has been going on for five years, but the department has not assigned a permanent doctor to the hospital. The people of the area suffer when their animals need medical services. They demand that the government should provide a permanent doctor to the hospital soon.
