Agartala, September 11, 2023: The residents of three village panchayats in Dharmanagar staged a road blockade on Monday to oppose the proposed relocation of a branch of Tripura Gramin Bank from Chandrapur to Thana Road. The villagers claimed that the move would affect the poor people who depend on the bank for their financial needs.

The branch at Chandrapur caters to the people of Ragna, Bhagyapur and Chandrapur panchayats. The bank authorities had recently decided to shift the branch to Thana Road, which is farther away from the villages. The villagers said that this would increase their travel expenses and inconvenience.

The protesters blocked the road of Chandrapur and sat on a dharna for some time. They later submitted a memorandum to the manager of the branch, who forwarded it to the chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank. The memorandum urged the chairman to reconsider the decision and not to relocate the branch, keeping in mind the welfare of the poor villagers.

The protesters lifted the blockade after submitting the memorandum and hoped that their demand would be met. They warned that they would resume their agitation if the bank authorities did not listen to them.
