A TSR jawan, who was working in the camp of the 2nd Battalion in Bodhjungnagar area under Khayerpur assembly constituency, was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the night of Saturday last. The deceased has been identified as Abbas Uddin, 46, who hailed from Narefang area in Santirbazar under South Tripura district.
The battalion officials informed the family that Uddin died of a heart attack after having his dinner and going to sleep. However, the family members have raised doubts over the cause of death and demanded a thorough investigation. They said that Uddin had no history of any cardiac ailment and was in good health.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. The autopsy report will reveal whether it was a case of murder or suicide, the police said. They also said that they are questioning the other jawans who were present in the camp at the time of the incident.
The TSR (Tripura State Rifles) is a paramilitary force that is deployed for internal security and counter-insurgency operations in the state.
