TET qualified aspirants holds stir, demands immediate recruitment

Date:

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 20th November 2023:  In a fervent display of dissatisfaction, 361 candidates who successfully cleared the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) in 2022 gathered in protest in front of the Shiksha Bhawan, accusing the government of delaying their appointments despite the acute shortage of teachers in Tripura’s schools.

The protesters, mainly comprising TET passers, expressed their frustration with the government’s failure to issue appointment letters promptly.

Traditionally, TET has been seen as a gateway to secure teaching positions, with successful candidates expecting timely job placements. However, the recent uproar stems from the alleged negligence on the part of the Tripura Board of TET (TIBT), which, according to the protesters, swiftly issued pass certificates but failed to follow through with appointment letters.

The aspirants, vociferously demanding their right to employment, underscored the critical shortage of teachers in the state’s schools. They argued that a scarcity in essential resources hampers efforts to build a better Tripura, emphasizing the integral role of education in the state’s development.

While the government contends that appointments are made as per the department’s need and not solely based on TET success, the protesters countered that the current shortage necessitates their immediate recruitment to address the education crisis in the state.

The demonstrators asserted that students have resorted to blocking roads in protest of the insufficient number of teachers, citing it as evidence of the urgency to fill vacant teaching positions. They expressed their willingness to take on the responsibility but insisted on fair remuneration for their services.
