Cypriot president visits Egypt, Jordan to push Gaza aid corridor proposal

Date:

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides visited Egypt and Jordan on Tuesday to promote his initiative for the establishment of a maritime corridor to get aid from Cyprus to Gaza, according to a written statement issued by the president’s office here.

It said that Christodoulides held talks with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in Cairo before flying to Amman for consultations with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The statement added that Christodoulides reiterated Cyprus’s readiness to establish a corridor for the sustained transfer of aid to Gaza and also to work with other countries for the restoration of peace in the region.

Christodoulides’s plan provides for the dispatch and storage at the port of Larnaca of international humanitarian aid and its transfer to the Palestinian enclave, about 370 km to the south.
