Agartala, December 21: Namita Chowdhury, a 43-year-old resident of Rhamar Bar, Jail Road, Dharmanagar, lies in a bloodied state at the North District Hospital following a violent altercation over land-related disputes. The incident, which took place on December 18, involved an assault by relatives identified as Rakhal Nath, Ranu Nath, Gopal Nath, and Rajendranath Kodal.

Namita, who had served as cook at Jeevan Tripura Secondary School, was attacked around 9:30 am to 10 am as she left her home. The assailants allegedly used an iron rod to inflict serious injuries, splitting her head and assaulting various parts of her body. The victim’s brother intervened upon hearing her screams, while her daughter, Nibharani Deb, rushed her to North District Hospital in Dharmanagar.

Despite the doctors recommending transfer to Agartala for advanced medical care, Namita Chowdhury remains under treatment in Dharmanagar. Disturbingly, the assault victim filed a complaint against Rakhal Nath and others at the police station on the same day, but there has been no indication of arrests or appropriate handling of the case. This has led to questions regarding the efficacy of the Dharmanagar Police Station in addressing and resolving such incidents promptly and effectively. The community awaits a satisfactory response from the authorities.
