NIA files chargesheet against 4 accused in terror case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has

filed a chargesheet against four accused at NIA Special Court here

last evening for supporting proscribed terror outfits in a case registered

in Mayiladuthurai district of Tamil Nadu in February this year.

The chargesheet were filed against Sathik Batcha @ Sathik Batcha

Thuraabhi @ ICAMA Sathik, R.Ashiq @ Mohammed Ashiq Elahi,

A.Mohamed Irfan and Rahamathulla @ Rahamath under Sec120-B,

353, 506 (ii) of IPC and Secs 13 (1) (b), 18, 38 and 39 of Unlawful

Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and under Sec 28 of Arms Act,1959.

A NIA release said the case pertains to a conspiracy by five accused

for threatening people and police officials and also attempting to murder

the police personnel during vehicle checking on February 21 this year.

The accused were also involved in spreading hatred and conspiracy

for the secession of a part of India and to disrupt the sovereignty and

territorial integrity of India by forming outfits such as “Khilafah Party

of India”, “Khilafah Front of India”, “Intellectual Students of India” and

associating themselves with the proscribed terrorist orgainsations,

including ISIS/Daesh, Al Qaeda and National Thowheed Jamaat of

Sri Lanka.

The case was initially registered as FIR at Mayiladuthurai police station

on February 21 and re-registered by NIA on April 30.

Investigations have revealed that the chargesheeted accused had held

conspiracy meetings in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and Mannadi in

Chennai to recruit members for the Khilafah Party of India and other

outfits floated by Sathik Batcha and R. Ashiq on the lines of proscribed

terrorist organizations like ISIS, Al Qaeda and NTJ of Sri Lanka.

During investigations, incriminating materials were recovered, which

revealed that the accused were in contact with ISIS handlers and

were using text, images, messages, magazines, videos pertaining

to ISIS and NTJ to indoctrinate and radicalize gullible youth.

Further investigations in the case are in progress, the release said.
