Agartala, 4th January 2024 :   In a tragic incident, ten shops located in the southern part of Barapathari Bazaar in Belonia sub-division were reduced to ashes in a raging fire that broke out in the early hours of the morning. The calamity unfolded around 2:30 am, as the flames quickly consumed a variety of establishments, ranging from rubber shops to spare parts, fuel shops, mobiles, and jewelry stores.

The first to notice the blaze were workers from the power department, who promptly alerted the local residents. Subsequently, the Rajnagar fire department was informed, and firemen rushed to the scene to bring the inferno under control. Despite the efforts of two fire engines working tirelessly for over three hours, the intensity of the fire proved challenging.

The initial suspicion points towards an electrical short circuit as the possible cause of the fire, although investigations are ongoing. The assumption is that the fire ignited within one of the shops late at night, catching the entire market in its destructive grip.

Heartbreakingly, nine out of the ten shop owners affected by the fire are now grappling with the loss of their livelihoods. The shops housed various businesses, from rubber and spare parts to telecommunications and jewelry, leaving nothing spared from the relentless flames.

The Belonia fire department was called in to assist, and both teams collaborated to combat the blaze. The estimated monetary damage would be more than crores.
