21 projects approved for early response system in natural calamities, says STE Secretary

Agartala, August 22, 2022: The state government approved 21 projects for development in early response system in natural calamities, said secretary of Science and Technology department Pradip Kumar Chakravarty on Monday.

The Science and Technology department and the North East Space Application Center (NESAC) signed a memorandum of understanding on July 25 last for extensive utilizations of Space Technology for development planning in various sectors across the state.

“A pilot project has been undertaken for monitoring of Haora, Katakhal and Manu rivers. The flow of water will be monitored and installation of sensors will detect early flood threats. To identify areas prone to thunderstorms and lighting, another project has been initiated”, he added.

Chakravarty said “A sensor-based warning system will be developed for management of landslides. For forecasting of flood, three weather stations is also likely to be installed. However, the shifting cultivation’s mapping has been completed.”

“Altogether, 21 projects were proposed by DSTE to the NESAC while 20 innovative projects worth Rs 4.23 crore has been approved under various departments of Tripura which will be completed within three years period”, he added.
