Agartala, 6th February 2024:   A 10-wheeler container vehicle carrying 8,040 bottles of a narcotic syrup was seized by Assam police at the Churaibari police watch post on the Assam-Tripura border on Tuesday morning. The vehicle, with registration number HR-55X-9860, was stopped and searched by the police after they found it suspicious.

The police recovered 67 cartons of Eskuf syrup, a cough syrup containing codeine, which is widely abused as a recreational drug. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be more than Tk 80 lakh.

The driver of the vehicle, Ravindra Singh, a resident of Rajasthan, was arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He was taken to the Bazaricherra police station for interrogation and will be produced in court on Wednesday.
