12 killed in attack on Haiti’s prisons

Armed gangs on Saturday attacked two prisons in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, killing at least 12 people, local media reported on Sunday.

The national penitentiary and the prison of Croix des Bouquets were stormed on Saturday evening and the attack lasted until Sunday, according to a communique issued by the Haitian ministry of communication on Sunday.

It is estimated that thousands of prisoners have fled after the prison attack.
