Agartala, 15th March 2024 :     Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Dipak Majumder announced today that the corporation has decided to construct permanent shops for 18 affected shopkeepers of Battala market, which they will receive after the Lok Sabha elections.

After inspecting the Battala market alongside AMC Commissioner Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Mayor Majumder criticized the CPIM and Congress for allegedly conspiring against the AMC by exploiting the affected traders.

“We have made decisions to make Agartala traffic-free. During this process, we observed that some individuals had illegally set up shops from Battala to Dashami Ghat and along Ronaldsay Road for a considerable period. We evicted them, and some shops were found to be involved in drug selling. At that time, we assured the traders that we would take action and arranged for government loans. Unfortunately, they lost faith in the Agartala Municipal Corporation and became entangled in the political conspiracies of the CPIM and Congress. They have played a lot of politics,” said the Mayor.

He further mentioned that as Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has directed him to address the issue, the AMC is committed to resolving it.

“Considering Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha’s view that these traders are poor and have been conducting business for a long time, we have decided to assist them. As promised, we will help 18 traders. After the elections, we will provide them with shops that will be constructed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Additionally, a park will also be established,” he added.
