5 Govt officials suspended, 15 complaints filed for violating MCC: CEO

Agartala, 11th April 2024:   15 complaints have been lodged with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Tripura regarding violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by various political parties. Since the enforcement of the MCC in the state on March 16, five government officials have been suspended in connection with these violations.

Chief Electoral Officer Puneet Agarwal, alongside West Parliamentary Returning Officer Vishal Kumar and other officials, inaugurated an Alpana Anushthan as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation initiative. Addressing reporters, Agarwal stated that complaints against officials are forwarded to the respective Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers for investigation. Upon confirmation of guilt, immediate action is taken. Agarwal emphasized that complaints from different political parties are thoroughly verified before action is taken. He highlighted various channels through which complaints can be filed, including C-vigil, the National Grievance Service Portal, and physical submissions. In addition, Agarwal mentioned the deployment of 84 companies of Central Armed Police Forces in Tripura since April 1st to ensure security during the electoral process. These forces are engaged in activities such as flag marches, area dominations, and mobile patrolling across different areas of the state.
