Three among seven held for raping two minor girls

Agartala, 17th April 2024:   Tripura Police have arrested three youths among seven for allegedly physically assaulting two minor girls at Gabardi area in the West District.

Police sources said that allegedly, the seven youths reportedly forcibly brought two minor girls from Ambassa and Khumlwng to Gabordi and allegedly physically assaulted them.

Later, when locals witnessed the incident, they rescued the minor girls and handed them over to their families.

The girls are undergoing treatment at Dhalai District Hospital. Finally, on behalf of the families of the two minors, a rape case was registered against seven people at the Srinagar police station on Tuesday.

Police registered a case under Indian Penal Code 376(D) and POCSO Act and detained two minor boys on Tuesday night.

However, due to legal complications, the police did not present the two minor boys arrested before the media.

Srinagar Police Station OC Dilip Debbarma said on Wednesday afternoon that Ajia Debbarma has confessed to the incident and the other two minors are being interrogated at the police station.

Police said there are a total of seven people involved in the incident. Police will be able to apprehend the rest soon. The police informed that on Wednesday, the accused Ajia Debbarma will be sent to the West District and Sessions Judge Court. However, in such heinous incidents, exemplary punishment of the accused is being demanded from all quarters.
