Agartala, 25th April 2024:  District Magistrate Chandni Chandran and Superintendent of Police Ramesh Yadav detailed the extensive preparations made for the second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections in Khowai district. The first phase concluded on April 19, with the second round slated for Friday, April 26.

Speaking to media personnel at the conference hall of Khowai district’s DM office, Chandran outlined the measures being taken to ensure a fair, peaceful, and efficient election process. He revealed that there are a total of 307 polling stations in Khowai district, all of which are equipped with CCTV cameras for security. Poll workers have already been dispatched to their respective stations.

In light of the current unrest in the state, provisions for drinking water and Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) have been made at every polling station. Additionally, backup power systems have been installed to counter any potential power outages.

Chandran also stated that no election office will be located within 200 meters of any polling station, and that Section 144 will be enforced from Thursday afternoon until election-day. A control room has been established in the District Collector’s office to monitor all election-related matters, equipped with multiple TV monitors. First aid facilities are also available at every polling station.

The district boasts a voter base of two and a half lakh, although Chandran noted that there are no third-gender voters in this center. Superintendent of Police Ramesh Yadav added that sufficient paramilitary forces have been deployed to every polling station to prevent any mishaps, with the district administration overseeing the process.

Both Chandran and Yadav appealed to all voters to cast their votes without fear, assuring that the administration is prepared to handle any untoward incidents. They urged voters to participate in the “biggest festival of democracy” on April 26, emphasizing that every measure has been taken to ensure a smooth voting process.

The district administration is keen to see how voter turnout in Khowai compares to other districts, despite the comprehensive measures taken. Chandran also urged all district residents and journalists to disregard any rumors and to contact the administration directly for any clarifications.
