SC closes Babri demolition contempt case

Date:

The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed contempt petitions filed against the Uttar Pradesh state government and its officials for not stopping the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992 due to lapse of time and in view of the 2019 verdict on the issue.

A Bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul closed the contempt cases filed by Aslam Bhure, who died in 2010. The court rejected advocate M M Kashyap’s plea for substituting the petitioner with an amicus curiae.

“With passage of time and in view of the 2019 Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya, the contempt cases don’t survive any further,” the Bench said.
