Student dies after alleged medical malpractice at Melaghar sub-divisional hospital

Agartala, 2nd May 2024:   The small town of Melaghar was rocked by the sudden death of a school student, leading to public outcry and allegations of medical malpractice. The incident took place when Md. Mainuddin, accompanied by his cousin Md. Rakib Kulu, was involved in a collision with a bus near Battali Langta Darga while riding a bike.

Sohag Mia, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, was rushed to Melaghar hospital for treatment. Reports indicate that shortly after receiving an injection administered by the on-duty doctor, Sohag Mia’s condition deteriorated, resulting in his untimely death.

The bereaved family has accused the attending physician of negligence, claiming that the wrongful treatment led to the fatality. The incident sparked a wave of emotion among the relatives, culminating in a protest that escalated to the point of hospital property damage.

In response to the turmoil, Melaghar police station staff has heightened security measures at the hospital to prevent further unrest. The family’s grief is compounded by their demand for justice, calling for the doctor to face consequences for the alleged medical error.
