Agartala, 8th May 2024:  Tripura Santiniketan Cultural Academy commenced its journey with a significant gesture: the donation of a portrait of the universal poet Rabindranath Tagore to the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College campus. This cultural academy, envisioned as an integral part of the upcoming Tripura Knowledge City, aims to foster a vibrant and wholesome cultural environment. Diverse cultural trends will be explored and studied within its walls.

On a bright Wednesday morning, dignitaries, including college president Dr. Malay Peet and the principal of the proposed medical college, Prof. Dr. Deepsree Bhattacharya, paid tribute by garlanding the portrait of the revered Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Malay Peet expressed immense pride on behalf of the Bengali community. The ambitious Knowledge City project in Tripura is being developed through consensus and collaboration with the state government. A crucial component of this endeavor is the Santiniketan Medical College. Dr. Peet confidently announced that MBBS classes are slated to commence here from 2024. The construction of a 120-bed hospital, supported by the state government, has already been completed. Additionally, plans are underway to establish a cutting-edge 600-bed hospital within the next eighteen months. Furthermore, a proposal for a digital university has been submitted to the state government, with the goal of launching it by 2025. The digital university will provide state-of-the-art services such as tele-ICU, tele-medicine, tele-pathology, and tele-radiology, even to remote areas.

The Tripura Santiniketan Cultural Academy will play a pivotal role within the broader framework of the Tripura Knowledge City. It will serve as a hub for cultural exploration, research, and practice. Individuals from all walks of life will engage in cultural activities, contributing to the development of a fair and healthy cultural ethos. In her address, Prof. Dr. Dipsree Bhattacharya, the proposed principal of Tripura Shantiniketan Medical College, emphasized the enduring relevance of Rabindranath Tagore in shaping cultural consciousness.

As part of the celebrations, the Rabindra Janma Utsav (Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary) will be observed on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Notably, local women will be encouraged to actively participate as entrepreneurs in the construction of the proposed Tripura Knowledge City on this auspicious occasion.
