School teacher plea for action against cyber abuse, delay in justice

Agartala, 17th May 2024:  A government school teacher’s quest for justice has hit a wall of silence despite her persistent efforts and a formal complaint lodged at the NCC police station. Snigdha Nath, an educator at Mohanpur Girls School and a resident of Indranagar, has been grappling with a social media nightmare where her personal details were maliciously circulated.

“I was shocked to see my picture and phone number splashed across various social media platforms, accompanied by derogatory remarks,” Nath recounted. In a swift response to the cyber assault, she filed a General Diary (GD) entry at the NCC police station and forwarded the case to the crime branch, hopeful for a prompt resolution.

The Crime Branch having gathered all pertinent information passed the baton back to the NCC police station. However, the promise of action was deferred with the pretext of the elections. “We were assured that the investigation would commence post-election, but it’s been over a month, and the silence is deafening,” lamented Nath.

Repeated inquiries have yielded little more than excuses, with the latest being the absence of the investigating officer from the city. Sources close to the investigation reveal that the suspects are believed to be from Mohanpur, yet no tangible progress has been made.

The lack of urgency displayed by the police has left Nath with no choice but to turn to the media in a desperate plea for action. “All I seek is the swift apprehension of those responsible for this defamation,” she stated emphatically in front of the cameras.

The delay in justice for Snigdha Nath, a teacher serving under the very government that champions good governance casts a shadow on the promise of a fair trial.
