Agartala, 3rd June 2024: The All India Save Education Committee on Monday presented a deputation to the Director of Secondary Education outlining an eight-point demand list that calls for, among other measures, the immediate cancellation of the ‘Vidyajyoti’ scheme and the National Education Policy.

A spokesperson for the committee criticized the Tripura government’s implementation of the ‘Vidyajyoti’ scheme in 125 schools highlighting issues such as teacher shortages and inadequate infrastructure in many institutions.

The spokesperson argued that limiting the ‘Vidyajyoti’ scheme to only 125 schools, given the broader context of systemic deficiencies, was both unethical and unscientific. Additionally, they noted that the recent secondary and higher secondary examination results under the ‘Vidyajyoti’ scheme were disappointing.

In light of these concerns, the committee has demanded the cancellation of the ‘Vidyajyoti’ scheme and the appointment of a sufficient number of teachers across all schools in the state. The committee’s eight-point demands also include significant improvements in school infrastructure statewide.
