Agartala, 3rd June 2024:  Local residents booked three notorious cow thieves who had been plaguing the Dhanchari area under Bishalgarh police station. The criminals were caught red-handed stealing cattle from the house of Satya Ranjan Das late on Sunday night. The stolen cow was subsequently sold to buyers across the border in Bangladesh.

The three thieves identified as Biswajit Debbarma, Bishal Debbarma and Aryan Debbarma targeted Das’ residence taking advantage of the cover of darkness. The distressed cries of the stolen calf alerted Das, who revealed the theft.

A concerned resident informed others about the recurring cattle thefts in the area. On Monday afternoon, the community rallied together and booked the thieves. The locals confronted the criminals leading to their confession. The three notorious thieves were handed over to the Bishalgarh Police Station through peaceful means.

Investigations revealed that these same thieves were involved in multiple house thefts in the vicinity. Despite previous complaints to the police, no action had been taken until now. The gang of accused thieves had reportedly threatened Das’ family after their capture. Locals expressed concern about the involvement of smugglers from neighboring areas near Kamalasagar.

While the police took custody of the thieves, they remained silent about addressing domestic complaints or ensuring the safe return of the stolen cow.
