Agartala, 25th June 2024:   In a significant move to expedite the approval and execution of projects under various Central schemes, Planning and Coordination Minister Pranajit Singha Roy inaugurated the Project Monitoring Unit (PMU) on Tuesday. This strategic initiative aims to streamline project approval processes and serve as an innovation hub, providing guidance to state departments on future projects.

The PMU, established at a cost of approximately Rs. 15 crore for a three-year period, was inaugurated by Minister Singha Roy, who also holds the portfolio of Finance Minister. An e-tender process was conducted to select a consulting firm, with Ernst & Young LLP (EY) emerging as the successful bidder. EY has appointed 14 sector experts to the PMU, operating within the Planning and Coordination Department.

Minister Singha Roy elaborated on the roles of these 14 sector experts, who will be instrumental in preparing Concept Notes, Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), and other essential project formulation documents across various departments of the Tripura Government. The sectors covered include affordable housing, warehousing and logistics, industrial infrastructure, roads and highways, urban transport (Mass Transit), higher and vocational education, residential and sectoral/technical residential schools, health and medical sectors, irrigation, power, tourism and eco-tourism, agri-business and food processing, and procurement and contract management.

Emphasizing the objective of accelerating project implementation from both technical and financial perspectives, Minister Singha Roy stated, “We have provided an official workspace for the team, and detailed discussions were held on their operational methods. With numerous development schemes from both the Government of India and the state government each financial year, timely completion is crucial. Therefore, we decided to establish this PMU for a three-year term.”

This initiative reflects Tripura’s commitment to efficient project management and rapid development, leveraging expert guidance and streamlined processes to achieve timely and impactful results.
