Agartala, 28th June 2024: Upon Officer-in-Charge (OC) Samaresh Das’s return to duty at Churaibari police station, a significant cannabis seizure marked a return to law enforcement effectiveness. During OC Das’s absence, cannabis valued at Rs 1.50 crore slipped past police vigilance.
However, OC Samaresh Das swiftly acted upon intelligence upon his return, intercepting a lorry laden with online materials on Friday. Acting on a tip-off about an interstate cannabis smuggling attempt, OC Das and his team staked out at the station’s Naka Point.
“At around 5:30 pm, we intercepted a container vehicle bearing registration AS01PC-8915,” stated OC Samaresh Das, detailing the operation. “Upon searching, we discovered approximately twenty-one kilograms of ganja concealed within packets disguised as Amazon online content.”
Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty affirmed the seizure’s value on the black market to be around three lakh rupees. The driver has been identified as Ratan Debnath (26), hailing from Dakshin Laljuri area in North district was promptly arrested. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been filed against him, with ongoing police inquiries.
“This seizure underscores our commitment to curbing drug trafficking,” remarked Superintendent Chakraborty, emphasizing the station’s renewed dedication under OC Das’ leadership.
