Agartala, 8th July 2024:  A delegation from the Bangla Sanskriti Bala, Agartala Sangsad submitted a memorandum on Monday to the Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya urging active measures to preserve Bengali and local folk culture during the upcoming Durga Puja festival. They emphasized the need to discourage DJ culture in clubs and social organizations, aiming to uphold cultural integrity while fostering national unity.

Annually, the ICA Department of Tripura hosts competitions among Agartala city clubs for mandap and idol decorations, environmental upkeep, lighting, and more during the ‘Sharadiya Utsav’. Winners are recognized during the “Dashmi Yatra” carnival, enhancing the festival’s vibrancy and societal messages.

Nirmal Kumar Deb, President of Agartala Sangsad of Bangla Sanskriti Bala presented the memorandum, outlining proposals for this year’s festivities. Bhattacharya welcomed the suggestions and committed to action in line with governmental decisions. Similar memorandums are expected to be sent to the Agartala Municipal Corporation, State Police, Women’s Commission and private organizations involved in ‘Sharadiya Utsav’ celebrations.

This initiative aims to promote cultural heritage and community involvement in the festive season.

President Nirmal Kumar Deb and Secretary Anindita Roy informed this in a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Monday evening.
