Agartala, 21st July 2024: Over the past few days, Bangladesh has witnessed intense agitation over demands for quota reforms, resulting in violent clashes between protesting students and police on the streets of Dhaka. The unrest has tragically claimed many lives highlighting the severity of the conflict.
The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) on Sunday staged a protest in the Battala area of Agartala city, voicing their support for the Bangladeshi students’ cause. The state secretary of AIDSO Ramprasad Acharya emphasized the significance of the movement stating, “In the last few days, the student movement of Bangladesh has transformed into a national movement. This shift took place because the government made a final decision regarding the quota system without consulting the students.”
Acharya condemned the government’s actions, noting the violent response to the student protests. “The students, who were not included in the decision-making process, faced brutal attacks when they voiced their opposition. Over a hundred students have been killed,” he said.
He further explained that the AIDSO protest was organized to denounce the violence and support the Bangladeshi students. “We stand in solidarity with the protesting students in Bangladesh. We oppose and condemn the oppressive actions of their government,” Acharya declared.
The situation in Bangladesh remains tense with widespread calls for the government to engage in dialogue and address the grievances of the students.
