Tripura Police constable held for involvement in narcotics trade

Agartala, 26th July 2024: A Tripura Police constable has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade raising serious questions about police integrity. The accused has been identified as Santosh Shil currently posted at the Damcherra Police Station in North Tripura District was taken into custody last night for his involvement in peddling narcotic substances including yaba tablets.

According to sources Shil’s arrest came after a thorough investigation by police which revealed that his wife Jhuma Biswas owned a car seized earlier this month. The vehicle was found carrying a large quantity of yaba tablets leading police to dig deeper into Shil’s activities. Following that operation, in a press conference the North Tripura District Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty had earlier hinted at a major breakthrough saying a “big story” would soon be revealed.
