Agartala, 29th July 2024:   On Monday, Royal Scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma addressed a letter to Dipak Majumdar, the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Council, urging immediate action to assist indigenous vegetable sellers who were recently evicted from the Abhoynagar Bridge Area in Agartala.

As the chairman of Tipra Motha, Pradyot emphasized the critical situation faced by these street vendors, who have been operating in the area for over seven years. “I am writing to bring to your kind attention the pressing issue faced by local Indigenous Vegetable Sellers and Street Vendors of the Abhoynagar Bridge Area under the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). These sellers, who have been doing business in the area for over seven years now, have become an integral part of the local market but are now facing significant hardships. For the last six months, they have encountered threats and obstacles from various individuals and groups, and their longstanding arrangement was recently disrupted, with their stalls being dismantled and directives issued to relocate elsewhere,” he wrote.

Pradyot highlighted that the sudden disruption has led to severe financial losses for these vendors, jeopardizing their families’ livelihoods, as many depend solely on this business for survival.

“I respectfully request that you consider their situation on humanitarian grounds and provide a permanent solution. We urge you to facilitate a suitable sitting arrangement for these Indigenous Vegetable Sellers and Street Vendors, allowing them to continue their trade without further distress,” the letter concluded.
