Agartala, 10th August 2024: As the Rakhi Bandhan Utsav approaches, sisters from various communities, including Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Buddhists, and Sikhs are flocking to markets to purchase rakhis. This festival, celebrated on the full moon tithi of the month of Shravan according to the Hindu calendar, symbolizes the bond of love and protection between brothers and sisters.
The tradition of Rakhi Bandhan dates back to the time when Chittor’s widowed queen Karnavati sent a rakhi to Mughal Emperor Humayun, seeking his help. Since then, the festival’s popularity has grown significantly.
In the capital’s markets, shopkeepers have stocked a wide variety of rakhis to meet the increasing demand. A local shopkeeper mentioned that different types of rakhis have arrived, catering to the diverse preferences of customers. Sisters tie these sacred threads on the wrists of their brothers or grandfathers, who in return, give gifts and vow to protect them for life. The celebration is marked by the exchange of sweets and heartfelt wishes.
With only a few days left for the festival, the markets are bustling with activity as sisters eagerly prepare for the Rakhi Bandhan Utsav.
