Agartala, 11th August 2024:   A shocking incident took place in Udaipur where a respected English subject teacher Abhijeet Dey was allegedly beaten to death by a local political leader and his associates. The incident took place on August 08 last in the Poultry Road area of Udaipur.

According to eyewitnesses, the altercation began when Dey, who had lodged a complaint against a teacher, was confronted by Shankar Karmakar, a local leader of the ruling party and his accomplices. The confrontation quickly escalated into violence, resulting in Dey sustaining severe injuries.

Despite his critical condition, the police reportedly failed to provide immediate medical assistance. “The police brought him to the station that night, but no medical measures were taken,” said a local resident who wished to remain anonymous. The following day, Dey collapsed and began vomiting blood in front of the judge when he was presented in court. He was then rushed to Gomati District Hospital and subsequently referred to GBP Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon.

Controversy deepened when it was revealed that GB Hospital authorities released Dey’s body without conducting a post-mortem despite visible injury marks. “It is believed that the hospital handed over the body to the family without an autopsy due to special political intervention,” claimed a source close to the family. The body was later taken back to Gomati District Hospital by the family, where it remains in the mortuary pending a post-mortem scheduled for Sunday.

Dey’s wife, also a government teacher has accused Karmakar and his associates of premeditated assault. “My husband was first severely beaten at Shankar Karmakar’s house on Poultry Road. He was then taken there on a tip and beaten again in front of him,” she alleged. She also mentioned that Karmakar had gathered a large group of people at his house beforehand.

The residents of Udaipur have expressed outrage over the incident, with many questioning the role of the police and the alleged political influence. “If Abhijeet was guilty, he should have been handed over to the police. But no one dared to act against Shankar Karmakar because of his political connections,” said a local resident.

The incident has sparked widespread calls for justice. “We demand a fair investigation and severe punishment for those responsible. The police should have acted promptly to rescue him and ensure his safety. Their failure has cost us a dedicated teacher,” said a local.

As the investigation continues, the residents demand accountability and justice for Abhijeet Dey. The incident has highlighted the urgent need for impartiality and integrity in law enforcement and medical procedures, especially in cases involving political figures.
