Agartala, 11th August 2024: In a call to action aimed at ensuring adequate blood supplies, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday emphasized the importance of organizing regular blood donation camps. He stressed that these initiatives are crucial to keeping blood banks well-stocked and responsive to the growing demands of healthcare facilities.
A blood donation camp was organized to commemorate the death anniversary of revolutionary Khudiram Bose on Sunday. The Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha attended the event at the office of the Biblabi Khudiram Social Organization.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha emphasized the unparalleled importance of blood donation. “There can be no greater donation than blood donation,” he stated. He highlighted the necessity of organizing blood donation camps to ensure that blood banks are adequately stocked to meet demand. “During the elections, blood banks faced some shortages. We have 14 blood banks in the state, 12 of which are government-run and two are private. Blood is crucial, especially in emergencies,” he added.
Dr. Saha pointed out that one unit of blood can save the lives of three to four comatose patients. He also underscored the state government’s efforts to bolster the health system in Tripura. “Agartala Government Medical College, which previously had 100 seats, now has 150. We have also started a dental college and are planning to open another medical college,” he announced.
The Chief Minister further mentioned initiatives to strengthen district hospitals, including the establishment of trauma centers and the development of Community Health Centers. “We are providing free kidney transplants in Tripura,” he noted.
The event was also attended by the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumdar among others. Following the inauguration, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha along with other dignitaries visited the blood donation camp and encouraged the donors.
