Agartala, 12th August 2024:  The Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind has strongly condemned the reported atrocities against minority Hindus in Bangladesh and has called for enhanced security measures to protect these communities.

In a press statement, Mufti Tayebur Rahman, President of the Tripura State Jamiat-Ulama-i-Hind, expressed concern over the situation in Bangladesh following the departure of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024. He highlighted reports of violent attacks, including looting, arson, and the targeting of minority Hindus in various parts of the country. Some of these incidents, he noted, involved the killing of police personnel and journalists.

“There have been troubling reports of assaults on minority communities, including attacks on temples and homes. However, it is encouraging to see that many in the Muslim majority, including madrassa students, have come forward to protect minority homes and religious sites. Despite these efforts, sporadic attacks on minority Hindus by certain vested interests continue to surface in the media. We condemn these acts in the strongest terms and call for the immediate security of minority Hindus in Bangladesh. As Muslims, it is our duty to stand with our neighbors in both their joys and sorrows, and to ensure their rights are upheld,” said Mufti Tayebur Rahman.

He further urged all communities, particularly Muslims in Bangladesh, to prioritize the safety and rights of minorities.

“We demand that minority citizens in Bangladesh be protected from any form of religious discrimination and violence. Similarly, we advocate for the security and rights of minorities worldwide. It is imperative that the interim government of Bangladesh takes decisive action to restore these rights, including conducting thorough investigations into all cases of minority persecution. The government must take strong measures against those responsible and ensure the maintenance of peace and order,” he added.
