Govt aims to make villages strong, 3.50 lakh women engaged with 38,831 SHGs: LH Darlong

Agartala, September 09, 2022: With the purpose of enriching rural women financially, a total of 38,831 self-help groups (SHGs) have been formed under the Rural Development department in the state and a total of 3,50,000 women are engaged with these groups, said Principal Secretary LH Darlong on Friday.

Speaking to media persons at Civil Secretariat here on Friday evening, Darlong said “Financial assistance has been provided to the SHGs through Revolving Fund besides disbursement of Rs.811 crore through banks. Aiming to make the economy of the villages strong, rural women are made financially strong.”

The Principal Secretary said that the ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar’ program was recently launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in the country. “The objective of this mission is to dig ponds as well as rehabilitate abandoned water bodies to avoid future water shortages. Out of 966 Amrit Sarovar in the identified state, 77 Amrit Sarovar have already been completed”, he added.

In the press conference, the Darlong also said that a total of 2,28,411 housing units have been approved in the state so far from the financial year 2021-22 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). Out of this 1,18,550 housing works have been completed. He said that MGNREGA has created 1 crore 46 lakh 77 thousand labor days in the current financial year in the state so far. MGNREGA has 6 lakh 77 thousand job cards.

Deputy Secretary of Rural Development Department Manoj Saha and ABR Secretary Sudipta Biswas were present in the press conference.
