Agartala, 20th August 2024:   The state of Tripura, once plagued by the terror of extremist group “Hyenas,” commemorated the bravery and sacrifice of its soldiers on Martyr’s Day. The Tripura State Rifles (TSR) played a crucial role in restoring peace and harmony during the turbulent times when the air was thick with the smell of gunpowder.

The extremists, notorious for heinous acts such as abductions for ransom, faced fierce resistance from the TSR. The force declared a relentless campaign against the Hyenas, with many soldiers sacrificing their lives to bring stability back to the state.

On this day in 2002, 20 jawans from the Hirapur 7th battalion of TSR at Jampuijala subdivision were brutally killed by the extremists, who also seized their rifles. In their honor, a martyr’s altar was erected in Hirapur, named after the 20 martyrs.

Since 2003, the TSR’s 7th Battalion has observed Martyr’s Day annually at this site, paying homage to the fallen heroes. This year, the ceremony was conducted with due dignity, as officers of the TSR’s 7th Battalion addressed the media, reflecting on the sacrifices made and the peace achieved.

The state continues to remember and honor the bravery of these soldiers, ensuring their legacy lives on.
