PM Modi speaks to President Putin, discusses Kyiv visit, stresses on early resolution to Ukraine conflict

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin during which they exchanged perspectives on the Ukraine conflict and about his visit to Kyiv last week. PM Modi reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict.

In a post on X, the PM said:

“Spoke with President Putin today. Discussed measures to further strengthen Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine.

“Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict.”

The PM’s conversation with the Russian President comes a day after he spoke with the US President Joe Biden, during which the two discussed the Ukraine conflict and the PM’s visit to Kyiv.

The White House readout of Monday night’s phone conversation between Modi and Biden said:

The President commended the Prime Minister for his historic visits to Poland and Ukraine, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in decades, and for his message of peace and ongoing humanitarian support for Ukraine, including its energy sector.

“The Leaders affirmed their continued support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with international law, on the basis of the UN Charter.
