Agartala, 28th August 2024: A joint operation by the Tripura Police, Government Railway Police (GRP), and Border Security Force (BSF) led to the arrest of five Indian touts and three Bangladeshi nationals involved in illegal cross-border activities.
Officer-in-Charge of the GRP, Tapas Das, briefed the media on the arrests. He revealed that three Indian touts, who had been evading law enforcement for a considerable period, were apprehended late last night from Narayanpur, near Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport. These individuals were identified as Suklal Sarkar, Pradip Sarkar, and Biswajit Acharya, all residents of the MBB Airport area. They are accused of facilitating human trafficking by aiding Bangladeshi nationals in crossing the India-Bangladesh international border illegally.
“With the assistance of BSF and other allied agencies, we have successfully detained the accused individuals who were involved in a human trafficking case,” Das stated.
In a related incident, the BSF reported that on August 27, acting on specific intelligence, they apprehended three Bangladeshi nationals in the Kaiyadepha area of Sepahijala District as they attempted to breach the border fence and return to Bangladesh. Based on the information provided by the detainees, a follow-up operation was launched on August 28. During the operation in Ward No. 2 of Kaiyadepha village, two additional touts involved in cross-border trafficking were arrested.
The authorities continue to tighten security measures to curb illegal activities along the Tripura-Bangladesh border.
