Agartala, 28th August 2024:  Transport department Secretary CK Jamatia provided an update on the state’s transportation services following the recent floods. He stated that all train services, with the exception of the Agartala-Sabroom DEMU local train, are now operational.

Speaking to reporters here at Civil Secretariat here on Tuesday, Jamatia said that the disruption took place due to heavy rains and landslides between August 21 and August 22, affecting local and special train services. However, efforts by railway engineers have led to the repair of damaged rail tracks along the Santibazar-Garjee line. The Agartala-Sabroom rail services are back in full swing, and the remaining train services are expected to resume within the next few days.

Secretary Jamatia also assured the public that regular rakes continue to transport essential goods to various railway stations in the state. Food grains, cement, rods, and petroleum fuel products are among the commodities being delivered. There is no cause for unnecessary concern, as adequate stocks of essential items and fuel remain available.

Regarding air travel, Agartala airport maintains its regular schedule, with 30 daily flights taking off. Unfortunately, the IndiGo ATR 72 flight from Kolkata to Agartala on August 21 could not land due to adverse weather conditions.

In addition to transportation updates, Secretary Jamatia highlighted relief efforts for flood-affected families. Fifty families have sought shelter at Udaipur railway station, where local authorities and station personnel are providing necessary relief materials. Another 30 families have taken refuge at Jolaibari railway station.

The press conference was attended by Additional Secretary of the Transport department Subrata Chaudhuri.
