Agartala, 30th August 2024: Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury launched sharp criticisms against the ruling BJP government during a voluntary blood donation camp held at the CPIM state office, Agartala.
Organized by the DYFI Dukli Division Committee to mark Dr. Ajit Roy Chowdhury Martyr’s Day, the event highlighted accusations of electoral malpractices in Tripura.
Chaudhury stated that the BJP government has allegedly compromised the democratic process over the past six years, asserting that elections have been marred by coercion and administrative manipulation.
He accused the ruling party of forcefully capturing 70% of the seats in the recent panchayat elections, while the remaining 30% were allegedly rigged using unfair tactics, including the manipulation of vote counting late at night under police supervision.
The CPIM leader also emphasized that growing public dissatisfaction is visible in the form of protests against panchayats led by BJP members, with people blocking roads and confronting local MLAs.
He warned that BJP’s stranglehold on democracy is driving unrest, as even rural populations are resisting the legitimacy of elected officials.
Present at the event were DYFI State Secretary Nabarun Deb and MLA Ramu Das, among other leaders, who paid homage to Dr. Ajit Roy Chowdhury by placing wreaths on his portrait.
