Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to assess the ongoing flood situation in the state.
During the call, Prime Minister Modi inquired about the extent of the damage caused by the heavy rains and floods that have affected multiple districts.
CM Revanth Reddy on Sunday night briefed the Prime Minister on the substantial damage and highlighted the immediate relief measures and precautions undertaken by the state government to minimise disruption and prevent loss of life.
Particular emphasis was placed on Khammam district, which has suffered the most significant damage. Prime Minister Modi praised the state government’s efforts for their proactive measures that have prevented casualties.
He also assured CM Revanth Reddy that the Central Government will provide the necessary support, including the deployment of helicopters, to aid in relief operations under adverse weather conditions, an official statement said late on Sunday night.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued new warnings for villages, towns, and cities across Telangana, which continue to face the threat of heavy rains. On Monday and Tuesday, a yellow alert has been issued for Hyderabad and six districts. However, the intensity of the rainfall is expected to decrease starting Monday.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Nirmal, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, and Narayanpet districts, warning of potential heavy rainfall.
Additionally, Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Hanamkonda districts are also expected to experience heavy rains on Monday and Tuesday. The IMD has also indicated the possibility of rain with strong gusty winds across different parts of the state.
In Hyderabad and surrounding areas, the sky is expected to remain cloudy over the next 24 hours. The city is likely to experience moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers, accompanied by strong gusty winds. The maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 24°C and 22°C, respectively, according to the IMD.
Heavy rains lashed Telangana throughout Sunday, leading to record rainfall in several areas. Life in many districts was disrupted, with rainfall totals surpassing 30 cm in 16 mandals across the state.
In Mahabubabad district, Inugurthi and Chinnaguduru mandals recorded the highest rainfall at 45 cm, while Narsimhulupeta mandal received 40.5 cm.
